Mrs. Michele Garshi-Ellick, GSHF Executive Director, announced at the Jackson County School Board meeting, that the Foundation will provide funding to place more than 800 Bleeding Control Kits in every classroom in private and public schools in Jackson, Swain and Graham Counties. Additional funding will provide training for more than 500 teachers. These kits will equip bystanders and initial first responders with the essential medical gear needed to take immediate action in life threatening emergencies. Bleeding is responsible for more than 35% of pre-hospital deaths. Without intervention, uncontrolled bleeding injuries can result in death within minutes. Fees for the kits and training add up to approximately $45,000, which is the the largest community grant that the Foundation has funded. Kit installation and training will begin in fall 2019.
